The South Gloucestershire Local Food & Drink Directory has everything you need to help you to buy more local food!   It gives information on the farmers’ markets, but since it was produced, a couple have closed down so please go to the 'Farmers' Markets' link in the list on the left hand side of this page for updated information. 

The Directory also gives you a list of over 55 retailers and producers in the county with the full contact details, website addresses, opening times and recent food and/or drink awards they may have received.  Again, produced in 2008 some of this information may now be out of date.  An updated directory is planned for 2011.

Seasonal food

Eating food in season makes a lot of sense – here are our ten good reasons to buying food in season:

• Better tasting
• Healthier (vital vitamins and minerals not lost in transport)
• Often cheaper
• Fun and exciting when foods come back into season
• Supports local farmers and producers
• Good for being creative – making pickles, chutneys and jams – or simply freezing or bottling when food is plentiful
• Better for the environment – reduces pollution by cutting down on the miles food travels
• Reduces packaging waste
• Connects us with the food we eat and where it is produced.
• Fresh and distinctive

The directory also gives you lists of foods and when they are in season so you can check it out for yourself so that you and your family can eat more in a more sustainable way.
