South GloucestershireLocal Food & Drink Festival 2008!

The popular South Gloucestershire Local Food & Drink Festival is back again for the fourth year from Saturday 13 September to Sunday 12 October 2008.

  • Would you like to visit a bakery, farm or brewery to see where your local food and drink is produced?
  • Are you keen to watch a cookery or craft butchery demonstration?
  • Have you ever wanted to learn how ice cream is made or picnic in a traditional Gloucestershire orchard?

Then join in this year's festival of food and drink! Brochures with full details of all the events, which include several farm, bakery and brewery visits can be found at libraries, leisure centres and tourist information centres.

Alternatively you can contact the Local Food Co-ordinator, Val Harding at South Gloucestershire Council on 01454 863883 or e-mail her on val.harding@southglos.gov.uk or visit the Council website  at www.southgloscouncil.org.uk and go to the 'local food' section to see the brochure.

South Gloucestershire is supporting local farmers and producers by working in partnership with others to increase the availability and consumption of local, fresh food. This is because buying locally produced food is great for the local economy and your health and also helps sustain the local landscapes we know and love.

SUPPORT LOCAL DAIRY FARMERS!

Local milk in a supermarket near you!

It is now possiible to buy locally produced milk from Tesco who have recently launched LOCAL CHOICE MILK using milk sourced from farms in South Gloucestershire.

This milk is low in food miles and buying it means you are helping to support small family farms near where you live as farmers who participate are paid more than they would be for standard milk.

Local Tytherington farmers, Richard and Tom Cornock keep a herd at New House Farm and you can support them (and other local farmers) by buying their local milk in your local Tesco.
